#pubnow: Publishing Now update – 28 days to go

Elin Butler

Elin Butler is one of the City University project leaders for Publishing Now. With a month to go until the big event, Elin discusses some of the key themes…

Raise your hand if you know a person who doesn’t have a book somewhere in their home. Owning literature is no longer a pleasure limited to a selected few. Instead, it is time that is a luxury few of us can afford. Our hectic lifestyles mean we spend nearly as much time commuting as in our homes, and we simply don’t seem to have the time for reading. And on top of this, there are so many other forms of media competing for our attention.

Therefore we are facing such an exciting time in the publishing industry, as we try to incorporate the traditional hobby of reading a book with the modern technological lifestyles. The publishing industry has to be more creative and innovative than ever.

Discussions about innovation in publishing are very en vogue right now, and then often angled at the future of the industry. So we aim to create an event which instead focuses on the innovation happening right now.

But what does this mean exactly?

Well, get your tickets for the Publishing Now: The Golden Age of Innovation and find out! A two-day conference focused on exploring different aspects of innovation in publishing. The conference will kick off with a lively and informal debate at the university’s local watering hole The Boadicea on the Friday. The Saturday will be a little bit more formal with a combination of talks, panel discussions and various activities, with amazing speakers such as Anna Lewis, Alastair Horne and Joanna Rahim.

It was important to us to incorporate the audience into the discussion;  participation and questions are encouraged during the debate, in Q&A sessions and over a drink.

So come and join us for the opportunity to learn more about innovation in publishing from the expert panel, network and chat with other publishing professionals, people working with the industry and MA publishing students. And maybe most important of all, make your own voice heard.

Publishing Now: The Golden Age of Innovation is collaboration between BookMachine and the MA Publishing Students at City University. The event aims to combine a more formal debate scenario with what is the essence of BookMachine’s parties: to meet like minded within the industry to have a chat over a pint.
