1) Can you tell us a bit about your role at Hodder and your involvement with the All That Matters series?

The All That Matters series is a major new series from Hodder Consumer Learning by expert authors which aims to get to the heart of some of the most talked about topics of our time from Philosophy by Julian Baggini to Love by Mark Vernon. Our Head of Marketing Abby Coften and myself, Laura Vile, Marketing Executive have masterminded and implemented the marketing campaign for the series. Our marketing campaign has been wide reaching and targeted from direct marketing inspection copy campaigns to lecturers, to press activity targeted at consumers resulting in national and specialist press coverage, as well as Point of Sale materials for bookstores, social media marketing via our new All That Matters Twitter group and events marketing including exposure at literary festivals and with key organisations such as Royal Society of the Arts, the Bishopsgate Institute and a new season of events at Foyles bookstore.

2) What is the series all about? And how do the events fit in?

The All that Matters series explores the most current and talked-about topics today and are written by expert authors. The series gets straight to the heart of the most interesting areas of every topic in an engaging and entertaining way and features a unique 100 ideas section at the back of each book to expand your reading even further. They are also available as enhanced eBooks with over 30 minutes exclusive author video content, ideal for readers on the go.

3) What audience is All That Matters trying to capture?

The series is ideal for students needing an introduction to a topic as well as general interest readers who want to learn more about a subject area.

4) The first event featured Julian Baggini… how did it go?

The event was very well attended from a broad spectrum of backgrounds including members of the British Humanist Association, philosophy lecturers and general philosophy interest readers. The Q&A lasted for around 20 minutes with an engaging discussion on whether Philosophy can ever answer questions fully in the way that science can.

5) And finally, what’s coming up in the future?

We have two more author events at Foyles – Mark Vernon on the 1st October and Donna Dickenson on 3rd October from 6.30pm-7.30pm featuring a 30 minute introduction on all you need to know about the topic followed by a Q&A session. Tickets are free and you can book in advance by emailing: [email protected]

The next books in the series, Sustainability and Water are released in November and then there are currently 20 titles planned for release next year, including Love,  Animal Rights and Terrorism.
