Momentum launches digital romance imprint

Having seemingly realised that the market for this kind of thing isn’t going away any time soon, Pan Macmilan Australia’s digital imprint, Momentum, has launched another new imprint, Momentum Moonlight, dedicated to publishing romance, erotica and new adult titles (the new adult titles presumably falling on the grown-up Twilight, less-chaste epic romance end of the spectrum than the post-adolescence Hunger Games, where there’s no time for love what with all the dystopianism). Around the imprint, it also aims to build up an online community of romance readers, centred around a blog to which community members can contribute.

Momentum’s Joel Naoum says of the launch: ‘Genre is a major part of digital publishing, and Moonlight reflects Momentum’s dedication to the romance genre in particular. The romance reading community are voracious, passionate and increasingly form their communities online. We want to make sure we are in the same space as our readers.’ Voracious. Passionate. Take the hint, guys.

The imprint will release two titles per month throughout 2014, and already has 36 titles for sale on its site, including work from Mae Archer, S.A. Gordon (creator of the quite magnificently titled piece of political erotica Hung Parliament – ‘the election isn’t the only thing that’s coming’), JH Fletcher, Kylie Scott, Caitlyn Nicholas and, oddly, Sir Walter Scott, here represented by Ivanhoe. Maybe someone was misled by the title into thinking it was about a Russian pimp or something.

Says Kylie Scott, author of the bestselling (and Momentum-published) Lick (not to be confused with the short-lived HBO series Luck): ‘Many romance readers and writers have a fantastic sense of community about them. We’re all passionate about emotionally satisfying, well written stories. It’s not just about recommending the next great read, but also about encouraging and helping each other succeed in getting that story down on the page and published.’

Naoum adds: ‘The success of authors like Kylie Scott reflects the way that romance readers and writers come together to support each other and celebrate each other’s successes. We hope the Moonlight community will help enhance these relationships for our readers and authors.’
