BookMachine launches brand spanking new event series: BookMachine Unplugged 2019

BookMachine Unplugged 2019 square e1547545830708

The popular event series is back, covering key industry topics – Production, Editorial, Tech, Marcomms, Audio and Design. This year there will be 6 Unplugged events, with 6 hosts, more than 18 confirmed speakers, 1 brand new venue and an awards ceremony.

Each event has been carefully curated and programmed by our Editorial Board, led by publishing event expert, Suzanne Kavanagh. The latest event to add to the series is BookMachine Unplugged Audio, a much-needed inclusion to the programme, following a doubling of sales in audiobooks in recent years. Louise Newton, Audio Editor at Little Brown and recent addition to the BookMachine Editorial Board, will be hosting this latest event.

It’s our pleasure to announce that TypefiSupadü and  The Publishing Training Centre are series partners; and will be attending each event, ready to meet our thriving community and sharing information about how their technology and courses can help to improve business and skills across the industry.

Another 2019 initiative is a partnership with ASPIRE – an awards programme given in recognition of the work being done in the industry on accessibility by top publishers and vendors. The process for choosing winners of the awards is entirely focused on end user experience – the nature of the file and the nature of the platform. BookMachine will be hosting the awards at the Production event on Wednesday 20th February when Huw Alexander (COO and Co-Founder, textBOX), Stacy Rowe (Service Manager, RNIB Bookshare), Alicia Wise (Senior VP for Global Strategic Networks at Elsevier and a founding member of ABC) join Ken Jones (Director, Circular Software) to talk about The business of accessibility.

Talking Editorial on Wednesday 3rd April also has a super line-up: Join Keshini Naidoo (Publishing Director, Hera Books), Zara Anvari (Commissioning Editor, Octopus Books) and Valerie Brandes (Founder & Publisher, Jacaranda Books) together with our charming host, Abbie Headon (Abbie Headon Publishing Services) as they discuss Commissioning: The insider’s guide to building strong lists.

Some of our other outstanding speakers throughout the 2019 event series include: Nick Barreto, Co-founder & Technology Director, Canelo Digital Publishing, speaking at Talking Tech on 22nd May; Amy Winchester, Head of Publicity, Unbound, who will be Talking Marcomms on 3rd July; Sarah Shrubb, Audio Publisher, Hachette Audio featuring at Talking Audio on 25th September and Donna Payne, Creative Director, Faber & Faber at Talking Design on 13th November.
