SUMMARY:UK Publishers’ Walk and Talk: Knole Park Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next Walk and Talk event in our new series where you can meet up safely outdoors. Everyone is welcome to join us as we get some exercise – with a fix of nature – whilst connecting with others across the publishing industry. \n  \nThe walks are led by Justyna Pezik\, an experienced walker and hiker. Justyna has worked in publishing for 22 years\, both in editorial and rights\, and alongside her busy workload has gained a Mountaineer License and hiked mountains all over Europe\, North and South Americas and Asia. In her spare time she leads community walks for a local charity\, so she knows her stuff! \n  \nThe second walk will be happening on Saturday 21st August 2021 at Knole Park in Sevenoaks\, Kent*. To take part\, please book your place asap. We hope you join us! \n  \n*Sorry to all our members across the UK and wider world who cannot make this event. We would love to extend this to members elsewhere – so if you are interested in setting up your own Walk and Talk\, please do get in touch! \n  \nCosts:\nFREE for BookMachine members \nEveryone else: Donation of £1 to £5 (pay what you can afford) for non-members – please bring a cash donation with you on the day. \n(All fees will be donated to our charity partner of the year\, Book Aid International. BookMachine will match donations.) \n  \nSchedule:\n10:20 – Meet at Sevenoaks Station in Sevenoaks\, Kent\, TN13 1DP. \nThis is a 7.5km circular walk through a beautiful deer park and will take approximately 4 hours. The route is mainly flat but there will be some hills. Please see the map below for the route: \nAfter around 5.5km\, we’ll stop in the Knole Court Café for a drink and lunch for about an hour. Afterwards\, we’ll head back through the park towards Sevenoaks Station to end the walk. \n\n  \nWhat to bring:\nPlease bring comfortable shoes\, plenty of water\, suncream and a hat\, a waterproof jacket in case of showers\, and a smile! \n  \nGetting there:\nIf coming from London by train\, please take: \n09:45 train from London Charing Cross [CHX] (Platform 6) to Sevenoaks\, which is around a 35-minute journey. Please check our website (or https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/) the day before for changes to this schedule. \n  \nIf you are driving\, you can park at Sevenoaks Station Car Park A or B (Saturday daily rate: £3.70)\, Bradbourne Car Park (£1/hour for 1–4 hours\, £5 all day) or Sevenoaks Town Car Park (Saturday rates: £4 for 4 hours\, £4.50 for 5 hours and £5.50 all day).

DESCRIPTION:Join us on a new platform for this month’s mixer!\nJoin us on Thursday 26th August from 6–7pm BST to meet\, mingle and chat with other BookMachine members. This month we will be using the virtual space Wonder to help you tap into the conversations that matter most and meet the people you really want to meet. RSVP below to join us! \n  \nWhat’s the mixer all about?\nOur mixers are informal and social online gatherings designed to help you wind down\, catch up and debrief with publishing people from across the industry. On the last Thursday of each month\, we gather together members who are up for connecting from wherever they are with their cameras switched on. We help to kick things off with conversation starters and ice-breakers to keep things flowing. \nSince the pandemic hit in 2020\, we’ve been using Zoom. This month\, we’re shaking things up with a new platform\, Wonder. It allows you to ‘move’ around the virtual room to meet different people and take part in lots of conversations – just as you might at an in-person event or party. Guests move their avatars around with their mouse\, joining a conversation by moving closer\, and leaving it by moving away. Simple as that! \n  \nWhy should you join us?\n\nCatch up with friendly faces – Whether you’re craving real-life connections\, it’s been a while since you attended an event or you’re working remotely or solo within the industry\, our mixers give you the chance to get up to speed with what you’ve missed.\nMeet surprising people – Whilst there’s a core crowd each month\, different members attend when works for them\, meaning you can ‘bump into’ interesting professionals who you might not have met otherwise.\nDip into different areas of publishing – As well as mixing with a different crowd\, you can tap into varied departments through chatting with people from across the industry as well as around the world.\nDiscuss big industry topics\, or leave work behind – If you want to talk trends and big news from the last month\, there’s space for those conversations. However\, if you want to leave business at the door and make human connections\, you can join us for that too.\n\n~ \nCan’t make it? We host these events on the last Thursday of every month\, so look out for future mixers coming soon.
