BookMachine in Barcelona [EVENT]

If you’re working in the publishing industry and near Barcelona on 16th February, then this is an event to be at! BookMachine in Barcelona draws in an interesting crowd of publishers, agents, freelancers and book technology experts. Everyone meets at La Laie bookshop, in a private room, ideal for some drinks and a talk followed by a meal for some. In February the guest speaker will be Daniel Benchimol, who will be visiting from Argentina. Daniel is Director of Proyecto451, digital specialists working with Planeta Editorial, Penguin Random House, Grupo Macmillan, Ediciones SM and Siglo XXI in Latin America. He will be discussing the current digital book market in Latin America and what he expects will happen in the future. Spanish start-up interview: SeeBook

SeeBook is a new publishing start-up that enables e-books to be sold in brick-and-mortar stores, given away as gifts or signed by the author. Rosa Sala co-founded the company after years of experiencing challenges within the publishing industry. SeeBook are kindly sponsoring BookMachine Barcelona on Thursday. Maria Cardona interviewed Rosa to find out more.

Maria: What is SeeBook? Where did the idea come from, and what exactly do you offer?

Rosa: In a nutshell: SeeBooks are physical cards which allow you to download ebooks in multiple formats. They are sold in bookshops.

Roca Editorial discuss ebook strategies [INTERVIEW]

This is an interview with Blanca Rosa Roca, speaker at BookMachine Barcelona on 26th February. Blanca (@RocaEditorial) is the founder and director of Roca Editorial, set up  in 2003, by five professionals with substantial experience of publishing. Here Maria Cardona (@mmcardona) finds out more about the publishing house.
1. Roca is a medium-sized Spanish publishing house with a particularly strong digital presence. What are you planning at the moment, and what do you foresee happening in the near future?
Like other Spanish publishers, we have been affected by the recession. However, although sales of print books are down, we have witnessed double-digit year-on-year growth in digital revenues.
