Company Summary

Legend Press is a fiction publisher, specialising in four main areas: crime, literary fiction, women’s fiction and historical novels. Part of the Legend Times Group, our offices are based in Central London. The successful candidate will be working within a small, innovative and dynamic team on an award-winning and growing publishing list.

Key responsibilities

  • Devise overall promotional strategy for the company’s brand, books and projects
  • Develop innovative and individual PR and marketing strategies for each title: compiling press releases, securing review and feature coverage in national and local media.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with press, across online, print, radio and TV
  • Manage the company’s social media including Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Work closely with reader communities including Goodreads and NetGalley
  • Provide excellent author care and support
  • Write interesting and varied copy for the company newsletters and blog
  • Work closely with editorial and sales to plan a cohesive publishing strategy, providing input for new acquisitions and projects
  • Produce visually exciting marketing materials including AIs and catalogues.

Publishing Sales Manager in London [JOB POSTING]

Legend Times has a brilliant opportunity for a publishing sales professional to join a small and innovative independent publishing team.

Key Duties

  1. Work within Legend Press’s small independent publishing team, publishing literary, contemporary, historical and crime fiction. Legend Press will publish 15 titles in 2016 with the plan to double its list in 2017.
  2. Be able to work to and meet monthly sales targets. To help work on quarterly and annual sales budgets, setting agreed targets for upcoming months and years.
  3. Work with key book outlets to maximise sales potential and results. Large accounts include, but not limited to WHSmith’s, Amazon, Gardners, Bertrams, Waterstones, Blackwell’s, Foyles etc. Attend monthly or quarterly buyer meetings depending on account and develop key contacts with head buyers.
  4. Identify and handle large number of smaller accounts to increase sales in all outlets. Contact for all accounts will be by phone, email and in person.
  5. Events have historically been a key strategy for Legend Press and the role will require arranging launch events, signing tours and other events for authors and the companies’ lists in general.
  6. Export has been highlighted as a key opportunity for the business and the role will include working and increasing business with existing distributors and/or sales reps in North America, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia, Africa and Middle and Far East as well as further expanding Legend Press’s export network.
  7. Work on digital strategy, reviewing how more business can be achieved through existing accounts and identifying new accounts.
  8. Legend Press is keen to work more closely with the customer therefore working with publicity to generate more direct sales routes to the customer.
  9. Send review copies and other materials as required to buyers and other contact lists to maximise sales.
  10. Give opinion on key stages of the publishing process, such as covers, planned publicity, launch dates etc, so as to maximise each book’s sales.
  11. Sales support for sister company Legend Business as required.
  12. Keep title information up-to-date, both internally, on systems such as ONIX and Nielsen and at retailers.
  13. General administration as required within the publishing team.

Experience: Minimum 2+ years relevant sales experience preferable.
Target start date: As soon as possible after 18th May 2016.
