Working hours

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 5.30pm. We currently operate a discretionary hybrid model, with three days in our London office and two working from home.

About the role

This is a varied and exciting role for a highly creative person. Reporting to the Art Director, you will work closely with the commissioning team to set the design for projects, find knock-out illustrators, and contribute ideas for new formats.

You will assist the editorial team with design-related tasks for live titles and reprints. You will ensure that all work is delivered on schedule and to the highest standard, and that all administration and file management is up to date and accurate.

What you will be involved in:

  • Designing concept covers and spreads for new ideas and live titles
  • Producing materials for book fairs and sales presentations
  • Commissioning, briefing and managing freelance designers and illustrators
  • Researching and maintaining awareness of trends in illustration and finding illustrators to suit projects and budgets
  • Resolving technical issues and performing pre-press checks
  • Supporting the editorial team with design queries
  • Managing corrections on reprints and backlist titles
  • Working to agreed schedules and budgets

About you

You’ll be a versatile designer with experience in children’s book publishing and a strong eye for detail. Passionate about high-quality design, you stay on top of trends and bring creative flair to everything you do. We’re looking for someone with a positive, proactive mindset, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to build strong working relationships – both within a team and with external partners.

You will be able to show you can:

  • Communicate clearly and accurately

  • Maintain excellent design standards and attention to detail
  • Use Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Work collaboratively with both internal colleagues and external contributors
  • Brief and manage freelance designers and illustrators
  • Accept feedback, problem-solve and bring design solutions to life
