Reports to: Deputy Marketing Director, Adult Trade
Location: 5th Floor, HYLO, 105 Bunhill Row, London, EC1Y 8LZ
Working pattern: Hybrid – minimum of two days per week in the office; up to three days per week working from home
Department: Marketing
Salary: £40,000-£45,000 per annum, depending on experience
General Summary
Bonnier Books UK is looking for a senior marketing manager to join the Adult Trade division, working across our commercial fiction hub on our crime, thriller and romance brands and our biggest commercial fiction frontlist launches. In this role, you will lead on devising and executing stand out year-round campaigns for our key brand authors, managing and growing their author communities and devising year-round audience focused strategies to maximise both frontlist and backlist. You’ll be a senior voice and a key member of our Commercial Fiction hub.
We are the home to blockbuster bestsellers including The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Lynda LaPlante, Wilbur Smith and T.M. Logan. We’re looking for an experienced, highly commercial candidate who has a passion for the crime & thriller and the romance genre, is an expert in building and growing author communities, with experience of planning and executing both above and below the line media for commercial fiction. You’ll be a proactive marketer who is able to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Key responsibilities
- Devise and deliver best-in-class, insight-driven launch and sustain campaigns – including briefing and booking a range of above the line media (out of home, broadcast etc).
- Proactively manage high profile author and agent communications, with effective and timely coordination with stakeholders, both internal and external, on marketing strategy and marketing plans
- Work alongside our sales team to identify and deliver retail material ahead of sell-in and effectively support retail marketing promotions and partnerships
- Alongside the team, manage online brand author communities including newsletter, social media channels and website content
- Effectively manage year round marketing budget for key brand author and frontlist titles, using insight and analysis to effectively allocate investment
- Work closely with key team members across Sales, Marketing and International to plan and deliver year-round online and offline backlist campaigns across our key brand authors
- Contributes to author growth strategies including market positioning, devising exceptional marketing and promotional copy and identifying avenues for market growth. Bring campaign learnings and analysis to help inform marketing decisions
- Works with Deputy Marketing Director to pitch for new business for the Commercial Fiction hub
- Deputises for Deputy Marketing Director and Head of Marketing in key meetings including Acquisitions, Covers
- Manages 2+ line reports, setting clear goals for their development and supporting and mentoring them to deliver on their objectives
- Contributes to driving positive change, share learnings and upskilling others in the Marketing Team. Contributes to identifying opportunities for innovation and growth across the business
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in a marketing role in publishing, delivering effective marketing campaigns for commercial fiction, including above the line media experience – briefing agencies, effectively analysing media plans and booking impactful media
- A proactive project manager who brings teams together, forward plans across the year and delivers to deadlines
- Experience successfully managing budgets
- Experience of community management including leading and executing newsletter, social media community and website strategy to deliver growth
- Exceptional communication skills, presentation and stakeholder relationship management skills
- A confident senior voice who is immersed in the crime & thriller and romance market and has a creative approach to spotting opportunities
- Experience in delivering impactful content and creative that tells a story
- Understanding how to analyse audience data and apply learnings
- Up to date with market trends including paid media market
- Confident mentor offering support and sharing expertise with the team
- Management experience preferable
