BookMachine NYC is back
With August at a close and summer hours about to expire we thought you could use some upbeat news. We’re thrilled to announce the hiatus is over: BookMachine NYC will be back in action this fall! Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 13, and keep an eye out for RSVP links with further details.
I think we can all agree we’ve had an interesting summer. Though we expected horrendously hot and humid weather, we’ve been met with mild heat and stormy rains. We also expected the season to bring slow work days and news lulls, but instead have opened our papers and screens to sensational publishing stories.
The various Amazon-Hachette headlines have seeped out of industry publications to spark consumer interest; an opportunity which Apple has noted and benefited from. Samsung and B&N Nook joined forces with promises of new reader-friendly tablet competition – the results of which have just been released. Ingram and Hachette announced the acquisition of Perseus, and sadly cancelled shortly thereafter. With so many changes provoking controversy and commentary from writers to readers and everyone in between, the timing for a relaunch of BookMachine NYC could not be more perfect.
Meet and mingle with some of the friendliest folks in publishing – editors, designers, publishers, marketeers, and sales professionals will be rubbing shoulders with book lovers, booksellers and writers. And not to mention a few app developers, game designers and aspiring publishing students.
Come to hear our speakers talk openly about big projects they’ve worked on: what they’ve done well, what they’ve learned and what they’ll do differently next time. BookMachine is all about celebrating collaboration, innovation and partnership in the publishing industry.
We’re looking forward to seeing familiar friends and new faces in our favorite hangout, Iguana. If you work in publishing (or publishing-adjacent) and live in NYC, please join us on Thursday, November 13th for a drink. In the meantime, we’d love for you to connect with us on Meetup and follow us on Twitter.
