Creative Entrepreneurship in Oxford [COURSE]

Sue e1415572333631

In January 2014, sixteen publishers joined the ‘Publishing Fusion Workshop’ in Oxford. They had understood that to futureproof a career in publishing these days requires a multitude of skills: digital, creative and entrepreneurial. After three days of lectures and seminars by tutors from the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies together with some of the most innovative and inspirational professionals in the industry, almost all the participants said the course was the most exciting they had ever been on. More significantly, having been divided into groups to work on born digital projects, the outputs were so stunning that one project resulted in a contract from RandomHouse!

So with the course now back by popular demand there is another chance for you to take part if you missed it last time! Re-named ‘Creative Entrepreneurship’ and running from 14-16th January in Oxford, the course is designed for publishers who are excited by their work, open to new ideas, to learning from other media, to thinking in new ways about new products, to working collaboratively, and to ensuring that the best ideas get heard and see the light of day. Above all, it shows how you can directly apply what you have learned in the workplace.

In the evenings, delegates will work on a born digital project and, on the final day, delegates’ managers are warmly welcomed to join the course to find out about some of the exciting things that have been learned and to hear the presentations.

Speakers include:

  • Emma Barnes – Managing Director, Snowbooks, and enterprise management software developer
  • Marc Bloch – Head of Digital, Pearson
  • Eric Huang – Development Director, Made in Me
  • Piers Ibbotson – coach and facilitator
  • John Mitchinson – author, publisher and co-founder of Unbound
  • Rebecca Smart – Managing Director, Ebury
  • CM Taylor – author, ghost writer, app maker and screenwriter
