The Job Profile
Simon & Schuster UK’s Adult Editorial team is looking for an Editor, Science Fiction & Fantasy (SFF), Romantasy & Horror, to join their fiction team and work within their new Solstice imprint, launched earlier this year.
Reporting to the Editorial Director for Science Fiction & Fantasy (SFF), Romantasy & Horror, and supporting them with their list, this is an exciting role for someone who loves Science Fiction & Fantasy, Romantasy and Horror and wants to work in a varied and fast-moving environment.
The Job Role
The ideal candidate will work closely with the Editorial Director for SFF and this creative role involves taking on some frontlist authors, completing structural and line edits where needed, writing briefs and copy, submission reading and providing reports, as well as coordinating across departments to meet deadlines. They will also proofread page proofs and covers, provide an excellent standard of author care, handle data entry, and share sales figures with authors and agents. There may also be opportunities to commission in due course.
The Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail, a passion for SFF, Romantasy, and Horror, and a desire to actively contribute to the success of the list. Reporting to the Editorial Director, they will coordinate across departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high standards. They will multitask, communicate clearly with authors, agents, and colleagues, and have solid genre knowledge.
They will have previous experience of working in a busy editorial team, ideally within a trade publisher, and will have been responsible for signing books off for press. They will have experience with publishing systems and be able to work across different timelines, and be proficient in the various edits involved with genre fiction. Experience of SFF publishing is helpful.
