Reports to: Senior Sales Manager, Non-Trade

Location: HYLO, 5th Floor, 103-105 Bunhill Row, London, EC1Y 8LZ

Working pattern: Hybrid – minimum of two days per week in the office; up to three days per week working from home

Department: Non-Trade Sales

Salary range: £30,000 – £38,000 per annum, dependent on experience

General Summary

Bonnier Books UK is seeking a talented and driven individual to join our dynamic non-trade team. In this role you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic sales plans to drive the success of our diverse range of titles across specialized sales channels. This could be anything from presenting to gift wholesalers to creating a custom novelty children’s book.

The role will cover both Bonnier Books UK’s children’s and adult publishing. Spanning a huge range of titles, offering you the opportunity to learn and sell across every category of a major trade publisher. You will collaborate across the business to ensure the non-trade team is keeping within budget and hitting targets. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with key accounts, negotiating favourable terms, and ensuring the timely delivery of our products.

Proven organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively will be key. Knowledge of Biblio, SeeView, PowerBI is a plus, although training will be provided. The role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience working in an entrepreneurial and independent part of the business. Ultimately this role will be fundamental in helping the non-trade team to reach their annual budgets and develop new business.

Key responsibilities

  • Selling to customers and keeping them updated with title information. Understanding and implementing individual methods of communication for each of the customers assigned to the role.
  • Creating and delivering customer presentations
  • Supporting the Senior Sales Manager, Non-Trade where necessary with wider customer targets
  • Setting up and running meetings with assigned customers; understanding when to do so and what information is best to bring to the meeting (i.e. title information, business updates)
  • Attending internal meetings and being a lead for non-trade for defined divisional responsibilities
  • Advocating for the non-trade team and sharing customer-specific points within internal meetings
  • Understanding financial targets regarding assigned customers and the wider non-trade targets as a whole
  • Taking initiative to take on new responsibilities within the team
  • A keen understanding and experience of the production side of non-trade; costing up books, upspeccing and despeccing, calculating margins
  • Reaching out to new business and building the customer base for the non-trade team; pinpointing titles in the programme to focus on for business development
  • A strong sense of organisation and ability to juggle many projects at once
  • Providing support and organisation at external events like bookfairs, where required
  • Liaising with all other departments, including Editorial, Publicity, Marketing, Production, and Design

Qualifications and experience

  • The ideal candidate would have 1-2 years with a special sales or co-edition background, but all candidates with a publishing sales background will be considered
  • Pitching and negotiating skills
  • MS Office skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness
  • Attention to detail
  • Organisation and time management
  • Communication skills – internal and external
  • An enthusiasm for books and reading
  • Outside the box thinking
