Creative Skillset – the licensed Sector Skills Council whose remit encompasses publishing, alongside entertainment media, fashion, marketing and communications – is looking for publishing professionals to participate in its industry panels, giving feedback that it says ‘will be vital in shaping future strategies and supporting the UK Creative Industries in remaining globally competitive’. Over a maximum of four ten question online surveys a year, contributors will be asked their opinions on relevant concerns such as skills gaps, training and the industry’s future needs.
The latter will be the focus of the next survey, taking place 14-20 October, looking specifically at future trends of the industry: skills needs, technological advancements, investment opportunities and the like.
CEO of Faber Stephen Page is a board member of the organisation and a publishing professional, and is unsurprisingly enthusiastic about the process, saying: ‘Only by building a comprehensive picture of the workforce, its strengths and its future skills needs can we implement measures to ensure the industry, and professionals within it, remain world-class. One way of identifying needs and determining solutions for the industry is via panel participation. If you want to influence your sector beyond your day-to-day job, then I urge you to register for Creative Skillset’s panels.’
Applications can be made on Creative Skillset’s website, with separate forms for employers and professionals. As an added incentive, registering by 13 October sees you entered into a draw to win £100 of John Lewis vouchers, although if that’s all you’re in it for you might not be the type they’re looking for (not every question can be answered with ‘a photo frame and a DAB radio’, unfortunately).
